The Spectrum of Oral Pathology Specimens: A Histopathologic Analysis of 442 Specimens

Background Aims: Diseases of the oral cavity are heterogenous regarding their etiology, pathogenesis, histogenesis and clinical outcomes. The aim this study was to examine frequency diseases encountered in our experience.
 Methods: archives pathology at Jordan University Hospital were retrospectively searched for specimens from 2013–2020. Fisher’s exact test performed statistical difference between pathologic diagnosis variables. One-way ANOVA used analyze differences mean age different groups.
 Results: A total four-hundred forty-two cases retrieved. There 232 (52%) females 210 (48%) males, ranging 3–87 years (mean 43). Inflammatory reactive most common, constituting 147 (33%) all specimens, followed by 139 (31%) benign neoplasms, 114 (26%) cysts, 42 (10%) malignant diseases. Lichen planus common inflammatory disease (26/147, 18%) patients older than 40 (p=0.0039). Keratocysts predominated children adolescents more adults (p=0.0015). Buccal mucosa represented frequent site biopsy (76, 17%), tongue maxillary bone, respectively 70 (16%) each.
 Conclusion: neoplasms lesions Oral malignancy appeared low intermediate compared previous reports. provides a general overview spectrum points some novel epidemiologic findings that suggest further investigation.
